The head of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has been re-elected to lead the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) for a second term as president.
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s re-election was unanimously confirmed after being renominated by the Executive Secretary and receiving unanimous approval from the Executive Committee.
In the past year, Dr. Abdul-Hamid has successfully guided the continental body to achieve its strategic goals.
He enhanced ARDA’s presence and visibility by securing important positions in continental and global energy platforms, advocating for the participation of the African downstream sector in global energy transition discussions.

He has also begun implementing structural changes within the organization to enhance inclusion and improve working conditions for the staff at the association’s Secretariat. Dr. Abdul-Hamid will be serving his final one-year term.
The African Refiners Association (ARA) was established on March 23, 2006, in Cape Town, South Africa. It was established with the backing of refiners and regulatory bodies from various countries, including counterparts from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), SONARA of Cameroon, SAR of Senegal, SOGARA of Gabon, and NATREF of South Africa.
Later on, the organization’s name was expanded to the African Refiners and Distributors Association, now commonly known as ARDA.
