A New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, Obiri Yirenkyi Ebenezer, has abandoned the NPP and tied the knot with Alan’s Movement for Change.
Popularly known as OBIRI, the former NPP First Vice Chairman aspirant is poised to contest the Ayensuano Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
Said to be one of the pillars of the ruling NPP in the Ayensuano Constituency, Obiri attributed his decision to join Alan’s camp to the lack of discipline among the NPP’s leadership in the constituency.
According to him, the NPP which hitherto was a party of choice has lost track of its ideals and principles that made him join it hence the decision to leave.

Some constituents of Ayensuano constituency see the resignation of Obiri from the NPP and his decision to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate as a big blow to the Party.
Yaw Amoah, a concerned constituent, said the Movement for Change has welcomed the decision of Obiri to leave the NPP and assured him of members’ support for his vision.
The issue has set a divided opinion among members of the NPP; while some are not enthused with the development others say for the 32 years the 4th republican constitution has been in place, leaving one party to another is no big news, and does not in any way change the equation.
The latter group points out that Dr Wireko-Brobbey, aka, Tarzan, left the NPP to form his party but he came back during the presidency of John Agyekum Kuffour.
“Arthur Kennedy left as campaign manager to sit at the touchlines to throw stones on the field”, they said.
To them if such big fishes leaving the Party had little or no impact what is the big deal about a former Ayensuano member joining the Afranfranto.
