‘NPP Will Not Hand Over Power to NDC’ – Bryan Acheampong Repeats 2023 Statement

A year ago, Acheampong made similar comments during a health walk organized by the NPP in Kwahu during the Easter celebrations.

As the political party campaigns gain momentum ahead of the December elections, NPP MP for the Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Acheampong says his party would be re-elected again, and a power change would not go to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Last year I stood here in Mpraeso and said that whether NDC likes it or not they will never win the 2024 polls and therefore the NPP will not hand over power to them because they cannot win the elections,” he said at an Easter unity walk organised by his party in Kwahu. “If you cannot win elections why do you want power to be given to you at all cost. We will not hand it over to them today or tomorrow.”

But his comments have received some backlash from the other side. The NDC National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, who was also in Kwahu campaigning amidst the Easter celebration called it a bluff.

“He is the one saying that and as I have understood him, he said that whether they win or not, they will not hand over power. If his mother or family head, they should advise him here in Abetifi. If he is a man on that day, he should come down and say he will not hand over,” Mr. Addo is quoted by Citi News to have said.

Bryan Aceampong’s Comments in 2023

A year ago, Acheampong made similar comments during a health walk organized by the NPP in Kwahu during the Easter celebrations.

He said the NPP had what it takes to quell any form of ill conduct that the NDC might be planning to use to win the 2024 elections.

The NDC reacted to his comments and called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest him indicating that he was a threat to the nation’s security.

“We urge the Ghana Police Service to act with dispatch in this matter. We recall the alacrity with which it recently apprehended and charged the Suame Constituency Youth Organiser of the NDC for expressing views that were deemed to be inciteful,” the NDC said in their statement in 2023.
