Ghana showed its dedication to regional integration and collaboration by abandoning the left-hand driving customs of its British colonial past.

The move made us more compatible with our francophone neighbors and made cross-border travel easier. It was a daring action that called for adaptations, knowledge, and teamwork.

Another significant advantage to the change has been the consistency in traffic flow. Over the years, there have been initiatives to improve road safety including awareness campaigns, improved infrastructure, and tighter enforcement of traffic laws.

The NRSA will commemorate this milestone with severalevents and activities, including public awareness, engagements with transport operators and drivers, and community outreaches.

We invite the public to commemorate this achievement and reaffirm our commitment to road safety by celebrating 50 years of driving on the right-hand side of the road.

We use this occasion to advocate for safer mobility on our roads, road users must use the roads responsibly to promote safety and reduce Crashes, Injuries, and Deaths.
