‘Otumfuo is a Pillar of Peace, Reconciliation’ – President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his role in modernising the chieftaincy institution and mitigating disputes within the Asante Kingdom.

President Akufo-Addo has described the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as a pillar of peace, reconciliation, and national unity.

The President speaking at Adaekese on Sunday, May 12, marking the climax of Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s 25th anniversary on the Golden Stool, said the Asantehene’s successful efforts in fostering dialogue in situations of conflict, have endeared him with admiration both within Ghana and internationally.

President Akufo-Addo commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his role in modernising the chieftaincy institution and mitigating disputes within the Asante Kingdom.

“For a quarter of a century, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has served as the symbol of unity, progress and tradition for the Asante kingdom and indeed for the entire nation of Ghana. Otumfuo’s commitment to the welfare of his people, coupled with his strong leadership, has earned him the respect and admiration of all”, the President said.

Speaking on the occasion, Otumfuo Osei Tutu called for decisive action in the fight against the Galamsey menace.

“Our top priority must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of Galamsey. We cannot be the generation that destroys the most gracious heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers to satisfy the greed of a few miscreants. For whatever it takes, we must defeat this scourge,” he declared.

He appealed to all Ghanaians not to be partakers of anything that would destroy the electoral process as the country moves to the polls on December 7.
