Over 1,000 Persons Rushed to Tema General Hospital Dead Upon Arrival in 2023

This figure represented an increase from the 882 cases observed in 2022, with a significant portion of the deceased belonging to the working class.

A total of 1,079 people, including 621 males and 458 females, were brought to the Tema General Hospital dead on arrival in 2023.

This revelation emerged during the annual performance review of the Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate, as disclosed by the Medical Director, Dr. Richard Anthony.

Expressing deep concern, the hospital highlighted the alarming rate of individuals arriving at the facility deceased.

“We recorded a worrying trend of over 1,000 people being brought in dead on arrival; it is alarming,”  Dr. Anthony stressed.

He noted that this figure represented an increase from the 882 cases observed in 2022, with a significant portion of the deceased belonging to the working class.

Dr. Anthony indicated the hospital’s commitment to investigating the underlying causes of this distressing trend. He urged the public to promptly report any health issues to the nearest healthcare facilities. Additionally, he advised individuals experiencing post-discharge complications to seek immediate medical attention instead of relying on home remedies.

In revealing the top 10 certified causes of death in 2023, the hospital cited cerebrovascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hypertensive complications, and diabetic complications among the leading conditions. Other prevalent causes included liver diseases, acute respiratory distress, severe sepsis, pneumonia, kidney diseases, and hypovolemic shock.
