The Ghana Police Service has granted approval to the Minority caucus in Parliament for their upcoming protest on July 30, demanding the removal of Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and the board of Directors of the Bank.
This decision from the police was conveyed in a letter dated July 17, 2024, to Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga, following positive discussions between both parties.
The NDC MPs claim that the BoG Governor has poorly managed the Central Bank and should be replaced with someone more capable.
This protest would be the second time opposition MPs and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are taking on the Central Bank bosses over a GH¢60.81 billion loss recorded in 2022 by the Bank.

Recently too, the Minority criticised the Bank for constructing a new official residence for its Governor despite the bank’s financial struggles.
In the meantime, Mahama Ayariga submitted a Right to Information Act (RTI) request to the BoG, seeking details on the combined losses of approximately GH¢70 billion reported in BoG’s financial statements for 2022 and 2023, as well as the over GH¢250 million spent on the new head office and an under-construction clinic.
The central bank replied that this information was already publicly available.
