In July 2023, a police officer was interdicted after a video emerged showing him dragging a suspect on the ground by his neck at Dadease, near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.

In September 2021, another four police officers were interdicted for allegedly assaulting some persons in Tamale, Northern Region, while they were assigned to assist NEDCO/VRA officials in arresting suspects involved in illegal power connections.

The IGP, who assumed office in August 2021, has vowed to reform the police service and ensure that officers who abuse their power or violate human rights are held accountable. He has also pledged to improve the welfare and morale of the police personnel and enhance their capacity and professionalism.
