The statement did not disclose the details of the incident or the identity of the victim.

The interdiction of the officer comes at a time when the police service is facing public scrutiny and criticism over some cases of police brutality and misconduct in the country.

In September 2021, another four police officers were interdicted for allegedly assaulting some persons in Tamale, Northern Region, while they were assigned to assist NEDCO/VRA officials in arresting suspects involved in illegal power connections.

The IGP, who assumed office in August 2021, has vowed to reform the police service and ensure that officers who abuse their power or violate human rights are held accountable. He has also pledged to improve the welfare and morale of the police personnel and enhance their capacity and professionalism.
