Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has been granted a GH¢2 million bail by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), after being arrested earlier today.
His arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into corruption-related matters related to a report he led on small-scale mining activities in Ghana.
The renowned heart surgeon and former minister responded to an invitation from the OSP and has expressed his willingness to cooperate.
On May 4, 2023, GhanaWeb reported that Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, who previously served as Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, was called upon by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to aid in the investigation following allegations raised in a report presented to the presidency.

In the report, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng claimed that certain elements within the New Patriotic Party and the government had attempted to obstruct his work and undermine him during his tenure as chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
In a statement dated May 4, 2023, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng acknowledged receiving the invitation and expressed his willingness to cooperate, having been identified as a key figure in the investigation. The probe aims to shed light on suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses associated with the activities and expenditures of the dissolved IMCIM.
“I have formally communicated my willingness to attend the invitation and to support the OSP in its work,” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated, emphasizing his commitment to assisting the Office of the Special Prosecutor in its efforts.
