Prof. Peter Twumasi Sacked As National Sports Authority Boss

In a recent Public Accountants Committee meeting, Professor Twumasi was accused of insubordination and criticised over his management of various state stadiums, including the Accra Sports Stadium, which was closed mid-season to host musical events, displacing several clubs.

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has been dismissed from his position. The announcement was made in a memo addressed to the NSA Board. Mr Dodzie Numekevor will serve as the acting Director-General of NSA until a permanent replacement is appointed.

On February 26, 2024, Mr Numekorvor received an appointment signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante stipulating the former he has fourteen days to confirm the appointment.

On December 10, 2018, Professor Peter Twumasi was appointed as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, replacing the former Director-General, Robert Sarfo Mensah who resigned due to his alleged involvement in the ‘number 12’ exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye PI.

On October 28, 2022, Professor Twumasi, who served as the Director-General of the National Security Agency (NSA), was detained at the Legon Police station over allegations of fraud. Furthermore, he has been accused of receiving a double salary for nine months- receiving payment as both the Director-General of NSA and as a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He was invited to Jubilee House about two weeks ago to answer questions on various issues and pleaded for leniency. It appears he was unable to satisfy the appointing authority, hence his dismissal.
