Raising the Flag of Ghana High on the International Music Scene: Those who Matter (PT 1)

What hasn't Kwame Yeboah, the prolific master instrumentalist, with his witty and dexterity on the keyboards which literally makes even the Handels and Bethovens move a semitone higher in their graves, not done with Craig David and others?

Ghana is blessed with talents in all spheres of life’s endeavors. My focus in this article is to expose and espouse the good works of some Ghanaian musicians, who continue to raise the image of the country but are hardly projected or talked about on some of our entertainment shows.

These music exports have mounted stages internationally and exhibited their crafts to the admiration of many.

The likes of legends like Ebo Taylor whose music spans over 65 years; Okyerema Asante, the master drummer; Kari Bannerman, whose proficiency at strumming the guitar sends shivers down the spines of fans; other known colleagues whose works have existed for over 50 years; and Afro Moses Baidoo, who has been around for 40 years. These luminaries are seldom mentioned in our entertainment arena in Ghana.

Currently, some of the young ones taking over are Wiyala, Kog Kweku, Yaw Dela Botri, Kyekyeku Sos, Kwesi Wazumbi, and Santrofiofficial. The aforementioned have broken the record for Ghanaian groups playing at international festivals non-stop for almost 60 days!

Trickie Joe, the keyboardist who made a mark with Sunsum and Sappers Band, is a household name in Australia.
