Recording Academy to Broaden Reach in Africa and Middle East

The initiative follows the Recording Academy's two-year outreach effort, which involved meetings with government officials and music creators in Africa and other regions to gather insights into the music industry.

The Recording Academy, organizers of the prestigious Grammy Awards, has unveiled a global expansion initiative in the Middle East and Africa, in order to increase its impact and offer better services to creatives in the regions.

The Academy is teaming with ministries and music industry professionals from several countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in a bid to provide educational resources, advocate for intellectual property rights, and celebrate the musical heritage within these regions. As of now, only Ghana and Ivory Coast have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Academy.

The initiative follows the Recording Academy’s two-year outreach effort, which involved meetings with government officials and music creators in Africa and other regions to gather insights into the music industry. The Academy will release a series of reports outlining its research and insights into the music markets of these regions.
