Registrar of Companies to Strike Off 65 Professional Bodies Not in Good Standing

The professional bodies have been in default for more than two years, the ORC said.

The Office of Registrar of Companies (ORC) has served notice to remove 65 professional bodies from the Professional Bodies Register from June 30, after they defaulted on requirements to file registration documents.

The ORC has said the new action has become imperative as the organisations who have been in default for more than two years have failed to file their annual accounts and update their certificate of membership as required under the Profesional Bodies Registration Act.

“Currently, 65 of the 93 registered professional bodies have not complied with the directive of the Registrar of Professional Bodies to renew their Professional Bodies Certificates and that of their members, therefore they have been found to be in default,” Mrs. Jemima Oware, the Registrar of Companies said in a statement dated May 13.

The defaulting bodies include the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the Chartered Institute of Bankers, the Ghana Medical Association, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and many others.
