Residents of Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District in the Ashanti Region have taken to the streets to protest the closure of Salt FM, a radio station owned by young businessman Ohene Kwame Frimpong.
Officials from the National Communications Authority (NCA) on Tuesday shut down the enterprise, citing a failure of owners to renew their frequency authorization. The station’s transmitter was also seized as part of those sanctions.
The actions of officials have not been welcomed by residents in the area, who following the closure of the radio station started a demonstration.

There’s also speculation that the actions by the NCA is ultimately a witch-hunt. The owner of the station, Ohene Kwame Frimpong hopes to unseat incumbent MP, Andy Appiah Kubi at the December polls as an independent candidate.
Two days ago, a health walk he organised was cut short by security officials who said they had not been notified about the gathering.
