Fast-rising Ghanaian rapper, Kwesi Amewuga, has been announced winner of the Unsung Category ahead of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024(TGMA) slated for June 1, 2024.
The announcement was made on Sunday, May 26, 2024 ahead of other nominees in the category(Kasar, Lali X Lola, Keeny Ice, Seven Kizs and Alaptawan).
The Unsung Artiste of the Year initiative was launched in 2015 by Charterhouse, the organisers of the Ghana Music Award Scheme. The category was created to highlight underground artists who needed a platform and exposure to propel them into the mainstream.
The TGMA board and the general public nominate several upcoming artistes, who are making waves in the country with their songs for the category. The winner will then have the opportunity to showcase his talent on the TGMA stage during the night of the awards ceremony.

Previous years’ winners include Kuami Eugene, Kidi and Afrobeats artist KelvynBoy, among others. Kwesi Amewuga will perform his infectious raps and witty punchlines on the main stage at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards as the Unsung Hero.
Bodjah Anthony Kwesi Amewuga, better known as Kwesi Amewuga, is a rapper and songwriter born and raised in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana. He began his music journey along with his elder brother Kwabena Lyta. The duo participated in various music competitions and concerts in Sefwi where Amewuga would use minutes of his brother’s time on stage, to rap to the crowd.
Amewuga became popular in 2020 after he started releasing videos of himself rapping on various social media platforms. His style of rap which infuses witty word plays and rhymes at a fast pace gained him a committed fan base.
He currently has one EP dubbed the “Young Landguard” to his credit.
