Ghanaian actress, Kafui Danku, expresses hope that the struggling Ghanaian film industry will be restored to its former glory if former President John Mahama wins the Dec 7, 2024, elections.
In a conversation with Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio, Kafui Danku revealed that the progress of the Ghanaian film industry has been stagnant due to the lack of funding and proper distribution. However, the actress, who is an NDC supporter, believes the industry will thrive if her party comes to power.
“Funding and distribution have always been a challenge but it has gotten worse; it has declined some more and I was hoping it would be better. But if we all stop putting in effort or kill our passions, it’s never going to get any better, so let’s do our part and try to maybe step up and see if something different will happen. I’m still hopeful that it can get better, especially when my party wins. When the NDC is back in power, it will get better,” she said.
She stated that she has been monitoring the campaign strategies of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and has taken note of the passion with which he attaches to policies concerning the creative industry.

“I have been following a lot of John Mahama’s campaign, his posts and everything. I see how passionate he is about our industry. I’ve heard him talk about how he can’t wait for us to enjoy 5G so we can create our content,” he said.
According to the actress and vlogger, the former president has the film industry at heart and will do everything in his capacity to bring his plans for them to fruition.
“He has plans for us. I am sure you’ve seen in the news how he has supported some old actors and all that. You can tell that he has some passion for the arts and even for the people who paved the way and are not working; he still has them at heart. So I know definitely when he’s back in power, he’s going to do something to make it better,” she said.
Kafui Danku launched her professional acting career in the Ghanaian film industry in 2009. She has featured in a lot of Ghanaian films such as “Any Other Monday”, “Agony of Christ”, “I Do”, and “4Play”. She is also the author of the book “Silence Is Not Golden.”
