The United States government has commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his decisive actions regarding the political crisis in neighboring Niger Republic.
Following the military junta’s seizure of power from President Mohamed Bazoum last week, Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has demonstrated firm opposition to the unconstitutional change of power in the region.
Tinubu hosted an extraordinary Summit of the regional bloc in Abuja to address the situation in Niger Republic. During their discussions, the US government expressed their support for both bilateral and multilateral efforts aimed at restoring constitutional order in the country.
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, took to his verified Twitter handle on Sunday to acknowledge Tinubu’s bold leadership on the Niger crisis and reaffirm the commitment to finding a resolution in favor of restoring stability and democratic governance in the region.
