Afrobeats sensation, Tiwa Savage, also known in private life as, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, is set to make her acting debut in Water & Garri. The new film will premiere worldwide on Amazon Prime Video on May 10.
The film which was shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, features Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde alongside Savage. The Amazon Prime Video film will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Water & Garri tells the story of Aisha (Tiwa Savage), a fashion designer who spent the last 10 years in the U.S. and returns to her native country following a family bereavement.
However, unbeknownst to her, things have changed back home, violence has escalated and tension is at an all-time high. As she reconnects with family, old friends, and her past love, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.
Water & Garri is Directed by Nigerian music video director, Meji Alabi, with Tiwa Savage, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Jimi Adesanya, and Meji Alabi listed as executive producers.
Water & Garri is also the title of Savage’s five-track EP from 2021, which featured collaborations with Nas and Rich King, Amaarae, Brandy, and Tay Iwar. Tiwa Savage’s last album was 2020’s Celia, which reached No. 15 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart.
