The Asogli State Council has stated that Togbe Afede, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli will not reject an offer from NDC flagbearer John Mahama to serve as his running-mate in the December general elections.
In a statement Tuesday, the Council said “a group of people who identified themselves as ‘Change Makers Forum’ were the latest to approach Togbe to consider joining President Mahama as his running mate for the 2024 Presidential election.”
“Togbe responded that, as a patriotic citizen, he would not reject any opportunity to serve the country, but the choice of a running mate is the prerogative of the flagbearer who already knows him very well,” they added in the statement.
Their statement was in response to rumors that Afede’s name was among the list of contenders joining Mahama as potential Vice President.

Togbe Afede’s name has come up with others like Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who was the party’s first female running-mate at the last general elections.
Others were former Chief of Staff to President Mahama, Julius Debrah; an economist, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, Member of Parliament for Asunafo, Eric Opoku; and lately retired Police Commissioner, Nathan Kofi Boakye.
Meanwhile, Mahama is expected to announce his running mate later this month or in the early days of next month.
