Commercial road transport operators in the country after a meeting on Monday, February 21, have resorted to increasing transport fares by some 15%.
The increment is expected to take effect from Saturday, February 26, 2022,according to a report by NewsWireGH. The increment affects fares for shared taxis, intra-city (tro-tro) and intercity (long distance).
The transport unions had initially sought a 30% upward adjustment but a meeting with major stakeholders including government got the group to adjust its stance to 15%.
The increment according to the group is in line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares and in consideration of the plight of drivers, commuters and the general public.
