The US Embassy in Tanzania has temporarily closed following internet outages affecting several East African countries.
“Due to degraded network service nationwide, the embassy will remain closed to the public. All consular appointments on May 14 & 15 will be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date. The consular section will be open as scheduled for visa pick up and for emergency American citizen cases,” the US Embassy in Tanzania said on its X page.
East Africa on Sunday was hit with widespread internet outages following disruptions to undersea cables. The incident is attributed to a break near Mtunzini landing station in South Africa, global web monitor NetBlocks said on Monday.
