Warner Bros and Sony Pictures say they are halting the release of their film ‘The Batman’ in Russia. This decision follows a similar one by Walt Disney and several other Hollywood companies who have all indicated that they are halting movie releases in Russia.
“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming ‘Turning Red’ from Pixar,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement.
Warner Bros cites “the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine” as the main reason for their decision. Al Jazeera reports that the movie was due to open in Russian theatres on March 3.
Sony said it will also suspend its upcoming theatrical releases in Russia, including the film ‘Moribus’.
