The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that they published over 100 outage notifications during the first quarter of 2024 in response to the order from the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
According to the ECG, they published most of these to enable them to swiftly address maintenance activities on what they term minor challenges. This response came at the back of an order made by the PURC to the ECG on March 18, 2024.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) among many directives asked the ECG “to comply with the Cash Waterfall Mechanism (CWM) agreement and also submit various information and data to the commission, including a Dumsor timetable”
There’ve been many calls from the public to ECG to publish a load-shedding[Dumsor] timetable for Ghanaians to plan their power itineraries accordingly, amid the erratic power cuts. The ECG has however maintained that power outages being experienced are a result of minor technical difficulties and don’t warrant a load shedding timetable.

The need for a power plan recently brought forth an insensitive comment from the minister in charge of energy, Matthew Opoku-Prempeh – who was seen and heard, replying with “Ask those who want it, to bring it” to a question about the need for a load-shedding [Dumsor] timetable.
Days after declining the need for a load shedding [Dumsor] timetable, a newborn baby was reported to have died at the Tema General Hospital because the incubator housing the child went off due to a power outage.
