Mahama Launches New Policy for Creative Sector as Trigmatic Pushes for Music Archive to Save Ghana’s Musical Heritage
This week, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), John Dramani Mahama unveiled a new set of policies aimed at bolstering the creative and tourism industry.
The new line of policies dubbed “The Black Experience” was announced during his interaction with the media on July 6, 2024. The former President noted the policy’s significance in boosting the creative sector.
Meanwhile,Ghanaian rapper and radio personality, Trigmatic, has also called for the establishment of appropriate archive storage centers to preserve the country’s musical history.
Trigmatic expressed his reservations about the lack of proper archiving of Ghanaian music history. The rapper noted that there is a high percentage that Ghanaians might losevaluable information concerning the contributions and achievements of musicians who have impacted the Ghanaian music scene.

University of Ghana Studies D-Black’s “My Kinda Girl” in Academic Paper
The University of Ghana’s English Department analyzed the lyrics and music video of D-Black’s 2012 song “My Kinda Girl”, which features Sarkodie. The analysis was featured in the Critical Discourse Studies journal, authored by Dr. Nancy Henaku, a lecturer in the English Department. The lyrics and animated video of the song were analyzed the previous semester.
D-Black shared the news on his socials highlighting the intersection of his song and scholarly research by the University.
He mentioned that it is an honour for the University of Ghana to analyze his song in an academic paper.
King Promise Leads Spotify’s Ghana Music Global Impact List
Spotify’s 2024 Ghana Music Global Impact list featured 30 Ghanaian songs that had accumulated massive plays from outside Ghana on the platform, between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024. King Promise dominated the list, with his hit song “Paris” claiming the top spot. He also appeared on the list at the 8th and 20th positions with “Favourite Story” (feat. Sarkodie and Olive the Boy) and “Continental” (feat. Shallipopi), all tracks from his 2024 album “True to Self.”
YOLO Star Drogba Heads Abroad for Demyelination Treatment
John Peasah, popularly known as Drogba from the Ghanaian teen series Y.O.L.O, is seeking public support to fund his medical treatment abroad.
In an Instagram post, the actor revealed that his doctors have advised him to consider seeking medical treatment outside of Ghana due to his battle with demyelination disease. This condition damages the protective covering surrounding nerve fibers in the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle stiffness, excruciating pain, impaired vision, and poor body coordination.
In March, John Peasah publicly disclosed his struggles with demyelination disease. According to his sister, the actor’s symptoms first appeared during the filming of the YOLO series finale. Since then, Drogba has been open about his need for financial support for his treatment.

Ghanaian radio and TV presenter, Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has expressed her concern over public calls for Lilwin’s arrest after his involvement in an accident that killed a three-year-old.
Speaking up for Lilwin after the accident in Kumasi, the outspoken radio host warned critics not to rush to judgement, pointing out that the actor could serve as long as five years in prison if found guilty.
