The MV World Odyssey, renowned as the “world’s largest floating campus” that functions as a sailing university, has recently arrived at the port of Mombasa, Kenya.
This unique vessel offers undergraduate students, recent graduates, and gap year students the opportunity to embark on a semester-long educational journey at sea. This program includes visits to multiple countries to explore their histories and cultures firsthand.
According to the Kenya Ports Authority, the ship is currently home to 763 passengers, with 585 of them being students. During their stay, they plan to engage in educational tours at local universities, city excursions, and visits to various wildlife parks, enriching their academic experience with practical knowledge. Additionally, the ship accommodates “lifelong learners” over the age of 30, alongside its faculty and staff, promoting a broad educational environment.
Managed by the Institute for Shipboard Education, the MV World Odyssey has made Kenya a regular stop on its itinerary since 2022, fostering international learning and cultural exchange.
