Donald Trump Files Lawsuit Against “The Apprentice” Film

Donald Trump says, "The Apprentice" is garbage.

“The Apprentice”, a 2024 biopic film based on Donald Trump, has been threatened with a legal lawsuit by the former US president following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France on May 21, 2024.

The plot of the film follows Donald Trump’s early career as a property developer in New York in the 1970s. Sebastian Stan, who played the winter soldier in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, plays Donald Trump in “The Apprentice”, alongside actress Maria Bakalova as Ivanka Trump and Jeremy Strong as Trump’s lawyer, Roy Cohn.

The legal suit from Trump’s lawyers comes after a scene in the film shows the former president raping his wife, Ivanka Trump. In additional scenes, Trump is seen getting surgery and liposuction to treat his hair loss and erectile dysfunction.

The film, according to Trump’s director of campaign communications, Steven Cheung, is a work of fiction filled with lies and interference from Hollywood elites.

“This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalises lies that have been long debunked. This is election interference by Hollywood elites, who know that President Trump will retake the White House and beat their candidate of choice because nothing they have done has worked, he said.

In response to the lawsuit, the director of the controversial film, Ali Abassi, in an interview with reporters at the Cannes Film Festival said, Donald Trump should watch the movie first before pursuing legal action against the film.

“Donald’s team should wait to watch the movie before they start suing us. I don’t necessarily think this is a movie that he would dislike… I think he would be surprised,” the director said.

The premiere of “The Apprentice” at the French film festival on Monday coincided with Mr Trump’s trial in Manhattan, concerning his forgery of a business document to cover up a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
