Breaking News: Otto Addo Appointed Ghana Black Stars’ New Coach

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association is said to have approved the decision (Otoo Addo) of the five-member committee that was tasked to search for a Black Stars Head Coach.

Former Ghana Senior National Football Team coach, Otto Addo, has been appointed again to manage affairs at the Black Stars headquarters.

“The former talent coach of Borrusia Dortmund will be allowed by Borussia Dortmund to join Ghana for the March international window, after which he will travel back to the club to officially hand over and take up the job permanently in May this year,” George Addo Jnr of the BBC tweeted.

In a separate tweet, the official X handle of Borrusia Dortmund where Otto Addo until now used to ply his trade, mentioned that the club will part ways with their talent manager in the summer.

“Borussia Dortmund and talent coach Otto Addo will part ways in the summer as he embarks on his new role as coach for the Ghanaian national team.

Otto Addo on his appointment indicated his excitement for the upcoming role. He said the experience from his interim job would shape his future as head coach of the Black Stars.

“It is a great privilege to be able to take on the role of head coach of my national team. I’ve already gained a lot of experience in this role as interim coach and I’m looking forward to the task that lies ahead of me from the summer,” he added.

Seasoned sports journalists in the country have expressed their views on Coach Otto Addo’s appointment. In a tweet, Muftawu Nabila hinted that, the coach has a agreed a three-year contract in excess of $50,000 per month in renumeration.

Dortmund dropped the conversation of @ghanafaofficial buying Otto out of his contract,” part of his tweet said.


Otto Addo started his coaching career with his former club Hamburger SV in 2009, in the process serving as a youth team coach and an assistant manager till 2015.

In December 2013, Addo was appointed as the head scout of the Ghana national football team and prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, succeeding Ibrahim Tanko following the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

He recorded seven win, four draws and five losses during his last stint as head coach of the Black Stars.

Before his appointment as head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo was the talent development coach at Borussia Dortmund.
