NDC MPs Postpone July 30 BoG Demo

The decision to protest comes after accusations that the Central Bank Governor and the rest of the BoG leadership have poorly managed the bank

Minority MPs have rescheduled a planned protest set for July 30, demanding the removal of Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and the board of Directors of the Bank.

Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson wrote to the Accra Regional Police Commander on Tuesday, requesting a date change after his party announced to officially launch of its 2024 national campaign. The campaign launch which has been set for the 27th of this month comes three days before the protest.

“Given that the state is so close to a planned demonstration in Accra, the 27th July date has become inconvenient. Pursuant to Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Public Order Act, I hereby right to request for the rescheduling of the demonstration from its original date of Tuesday, 30th July 2024 to Tuesday, 13th August 2024, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. The route remains the same,” Forson wrote.

This protest, if it ever comes off, would be the second time opposition MPs and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are taking on the Central Bank bosses over a GH¢60.81 billion loss recorded in 2022 by the Bank.

Recently too, the Minority criticised the Bank for constructing a new official residence for its Governor despite the bank’s financial struggles.
