PNC’s Internal Elections Begins July 13

The party was recently embroiled in some internal disputes as some members quit, citing unfair actions. But as its internal elections near, the party has assured members of transparency and an inclusive process

The People’s National Convention (PNC) announced its internal elections set for July 13-27, 2024 as the party hopes to ready members for the December polls.  

In a statement on Sunday, the party also announced guidelines for constituency, regional, and national internal elections. Constituency-level elections will begin from July 13 to 27, with the regional congress taking place from August 3 to 10, and the national congress scheduled for August 31 in the Bono region.

But as its internal elections near, the party has assured members of transparency and an inclusive process.

“As a party committed to democracy and transparency, we are ensuring that our internal election processes are fair, inclusive, and transparent,” the statement.

The party announced that to promote gender equality, women will be allowed to pay 50 percent of the nomination fee.

At the national level, the flag bearer will pay a filing fee of GHC 100,000 and GHC 10,000 for the nomination forms. The party chairman’s filing fee is GHC 50,000 with an additional GHC 5,000 for the forms. Vice chairman candidates will pay GHC 40,000 for filing and GHC 3,000 for the forms.

The general secretary’s filing fee is set at GHC 40,000, with an additional GHC 2,000 for the forms, while the deputy secretary’s fee is GHC 15,000, plus GHC 2,000 for the forms. The organizer’s filing fee is GHC 30,000, and the deputy organizer’s fee is GHC 13,000.

For the women’s organizer, the filing fee is GHC 20,000, and the deputy women’s organizer will pay GHC 10,000. The youth organizer’s filing fee is also GHC 20,000, with the deputy youth organizer’s fee set at GHC 10,000. Lastly, the communications secretary will pay GHC 20,000, and the deputy communications secretary will file for GHC 10,000.

At the regional level, the PNC has set the chairman’s filing fee at GHC 5,000, with an additional GHC 500 for the forms. The vice chairman will pay a filing fee of GHC 4,000 and GHC 200 for the forms. The secretary’s filing fee is GHC 3,000, with a GHC 200 fee for the forms. All other regional level candidates will pay a filing fee of GHC 2,000 and GHC 200 for the forms.

At the constituency level, the chairman will pay a filing fee of GHC 500 and GHC 100 for the forms. All other constituency level candidates will pay a filing fee of GHC 300 and GHC 100 for the forms.
