The Ghana Prisons Service has restated its commitment to capturing a Chinese prisoner who absconded from custody after eluding two officers.

Wang Xiao, who was serving a one-year jail term for theft escaped with the help of two prison officers who are now facing charges of conspiracy and assisting escape.
Initial reports had said Wang was taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for a dental appointment – the place where he launched his escape.

But according to the Prisons Service, CCTV footage at a hotel in Korle-Gonno revealed the inmate and his spouse lured officers Joseph Oteng and Sergeant Isaac Boateng Bonsu with fried rice from KFC and a GHC 1000 while they fled off the balcony of the hotel room.
Abdul Latif Adamu, the Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Prisons Service said the search party is not resting in finding the convict.
“Our search party is still on the field. We have gotten a lot of intelligence information leading to where the convict can be gotten. We are leveraging various intelligence sources and operational strategies to ensure his return to custody,” Mr. Adamu said.
