She also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she and Gianna Floyd had received, following Floyd’s death.

“We need to make changes swiftly. No other child should lose their father like Gianna did. We thank everyone who stood with us and protested. George’s legacy will live on through this film,” she added.

The film’s plot will revolve around Floyd’s death in 2020 at the hands of former officer Derek Chauvin, as well as the global protest movement it sparked while focusing on other aspects of his life as a father. The director and cast for the film are yet to be announced.  However, Gregory R. Anderson, who previously wrote the screenplay for the dance film, “Stomp the Yard” will write the screenplay for “Daddy Changed the World.”

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin used excessive force to arrest him after he was suspected of using a counterfeit $20 bill in a store. Even though Floyd did not resist arrest, Chauvin suffocated him by kneeling on his neck for more than nine minutes. Floyd was heard saying, “I can not breathe,” during the incident, which was caught on camera. This statement later became the slogan for the Black Lives Matter movement.

In 2021, Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
